The Program Realignment Initiative is a
faculty-driven process that enables departments to examine their collective
beliefs and shared responsibilities concerning the fields of student learning,
teaching, and assessment and to become familiar with best practices in
assessment of student learning. It is also intended to foster a campus-wide
dialog on the core purpose of assessment, that is, learning and teaching
effectiveness.
The Program Realignment process is meant to be ongoing and systematic, as
departmental faculty will regularly revisit their assessment program in order to
gauge its efficacy and make any necessary changes. Periodic evaluation is
essential in creating and maintaining a dynamic assessment program.
This cyclical process can also benefit departments in preparing for program
evaluation as the results of assessment activities are integrated into learning
and teaching and are documented regularly, allowing easy access, easy reporting,
and enhanced accuracy of data.
Academic departments interested in the realignment process should contact the
Center to receive more information.
