The Student Assessment Center is responsible for the coordination and administration of two campus-wide surveys, namely the Entering Freshmen Survey (EFS-CIRP), and the Graduate Exit Survey (GES).
Ì Graduate Exit Survey (GES)
The Graduate Exit Survey is administered to all graduating seniors enrolled in the senior seminar or capstone courses. The survey contains seven sections: (1) Demographics, (2) Academic Department and Program Evaluation, (3) Evaluation of Support Services, (4) College Goals and Educational Achievement, (5) Life Goals and Future Plans, (6) Employment and Workforce Development, and (7) Additional Questions —which allows academic departments to add up to twenty additional survey items.
This survey has been administered to both baccalaureate-degree and associate-degree graduates since its original development in 1989. Beginning in Fall 2000, the survey has undergone multiple revisions based on the input obtained from a number of focus groups conducted with students, from feedback and input received from the Academic Leaders, and from consultations with academic and student support personnel on campus. In its current revision, the GES is a scannable, OMR form printed on a eight-page, user-friendly booklet.
The results of the survey are published by the Student Assessment Center on an annual basis and are available for all constituents to view and download at the Center's website (see Online Reports). The report includes the summary charts and graphs of the survey sections as well as additional tips on reading and interpreting data.

Ì Entering Freshmen Survey (EFS-CIRP)
West Virginia State College has a long history of participation in the Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) of the Higher Education Research Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles. This program is sponsored by the American Council of Education. Data from more than 1800 institutions in the United States are used to formulate the national normative profiles for American freshmen." Our College participated in this cooperative effort from 1967 through 1988 and later rejoined the project during the summer of 1994.
The CIRP, as a joint project of the Student Assessment Center, Collegiate Support and Counseling Center, and the Office of New Student Programs, is administered during the freshman summer advising sessions. After receiving the tabulated data from the CIRP office, the Student Assessment Center prepares and publishes reports of WVSC student responses along with some comparative analyses of the WVSC students with those of national normative profiles. The reports are available at the Online Reports section of the Student Assessment Center's website). Additionally, a copy of the publication, "The American Freshman: National Norms," is available for review at both the Student Assessment Center as well as the Office of Institutional Research.
