Disabilities Policy
You may wish to include this paragraph in your course
syllabus
In compliance with the
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), all qualified students enrolled in this
course are entitled to “reasonable accommodations.” Please notify the instructor
during the first week of class of any accommodations needed for the course.
More on the disabilities policy (not to be included in
the syllabus)
You may receive a letter from
the Disabilities Service Coordinator, a division of the Collegiate Support and
Counseling service (CSC), Sullivan Hall, East. In that letter, there will be
listed a number of accommodations for the particular student with disabilities
enrolled in your class:
- The student must be allowed
to have a note taker in the class. The student will be responsible for
getting the assistance (with help from the CSC).
- The student must be granted
extra time to take an examination. You need to discuss this with the
student and determine how much time may be needed. If the time is
excessive, you may suggest to the student that the exam be taken as
described below.
- The student may need to
take an exam in the Alternate Test Area in Sullivan Hall. Proctoring
service will be provided by the staff there. The instructor must supply
the exam and any exam requirements and limitations to the staff at the
testing center. The completed exam may either be picked up by the
instructor or it can be mailed to the instructor. The service provided by
the CSC is for students with disabilities only. Other students must
arrange their own proctoring needs.
